Hi,

We bought bulk cultures from Dairy Connection.  The smallest amount given is 1/8 tsp to one gallon of milk to make a mother culture.  Our instructions on making the culture is to heat it in a quart jar.  How do we measure 1/32 of a teaspoon?

any advice appreciated, thanks

I just add a pinch to make a liters worth of culture, the more u add the quicker it goes, Nothing nasty is going to happen.

That’s how I did mine as well.  The next cheese that I make will get a meso culture rather than buttermilk to see if it changes the complexity of the cheese and the flavor.

I put my culture in a sanitized Ice cube tray and froze.  Then put the cubes into a freezer bag for storage.  I used 3 cubes for a three gallon batch.  I only did a pint of starter however, rather than a quart.
