Raw milk

I have attempted to buy raw milk two weeks in a row. They are always sold out. Maybe we are not going to make Swiss cheese from raw milk to compare. There are other farms that sell raw milk but it takes an hour or more to drive there. I’m not doing that any time soon.

I am sorry for you that you are having such trouble getting raw milk.  Once you have tried it, you won’t want to go back to store-bought milk.  Raw milk is so much richer, since none of the cream has been skimmed off, that it makes a delightfully firm curd.  I have the problem (?) of the entire mass of curd turning in the pot when I cut it, because it is so firm.  Will your potential source not reserve a few gallons for you?  Perhaps if you bribe them with some of the finished cheese???

I don’t know how long raw milk lasts, but he always says that he’ll have some on Monday. I can only make cheese on Saturday and Sunday. I could pick it up Thursday or Friday night, but he has regulars who order milk for Saturday so he has to schedule all of that for Saturday pick ups. Maybe we’ll work it out next week.

If I could get Raw milk by driving an hour, I would def do it, grab 5 gall and make a nice wheel. smile

The milk farm called and said I can pick up milk after 8:00 tonight. I would, if I wasn’t going to the brew club meeting. He says he will have milk for me on Thursday night, so I’ll pick it up then and make cheese next Saturday. I want to the cheese cave filled up for Christmas.
