I went to the Dekalb World Market on Thursday. They sell natural and organic food from all over the world. I love to go there, but some things are really expensive, but the produce is not. They have a great cheese department, separated by what country it came from. I usually by a few different kinds, just to try.
I bought a piece of Irish Porter this time. $16 a pound and I don’t like it. I don’t like porter beer, but I was thinking that it would have more cheese flavor to it, and that the beer might go well with it. All I can taste is the beer. It has a definite chocolate flavor, but not enough chocolate to over power the porter beer flavor. It is a lovely piece of cheese, but I can’t taste any cheese in it. I will give it to someone in the brew club on Thursday night when we meet at the pub.
I also bought a raw milk cheddar from Wisconsin. It is aged for a one year, and it is really good. They had one that said it was aged for 2 years from the same people, but I didn’t buy it because one time somebody gave me some extra extra sharp cheddar that was aged for 2 years and I didn’t like it. It was too sharp. Next time I will buy the 2 year old one because the 1 year old is still pretty mild. Delicious, but mild.
I haven’t opened the other one that we picked up. It is also a raw milk cheddar but from a different company.
I hope everybody has a nice Christmas.
