Aside from aging cheese, I have come across a valuable way to use my cheese fridge.  I love to eat fresh spinach, but it does not germinate in hot weather.  So I put some seed in a damp paper towel, inside a zip lock bag and set it in the cave.  It sprouted nicely in the cooler temperature, and it has now been transplanted and will soon become fodder for Summer salads.  Mmmmm….

I planted lettuce and Spinach a week a go, my lettuce is up 1ch but no sign of spinach yet. Its outside and temp has varied from 7c at night to 23 during the day. We have also been having heavy rain storms with the sun in between smile

Had a party last weekend and that cost me most of the content of my cave cheese
But now I had an extra fridge for the wine and beer!

Well, I have been producing cheese from the beginning of this year with the upcoming party in mind. It was just after the birthday of my wife and together we now are a 100 years old confused
Altogether reason for a party. We started with about 10 kg of different cheeses and we finished the leftovers of the cheese (still about 3kg) last Tuesday at lunch at my office.
Got a lot of nice reactions, most people couldn’t believe it was home made…

I plan on doing that in the fall. We are going to have a beer brewing day, and I plan on breaking out the cheese. I have 12 lbs of cheddar that I made back in January and February, so by September or October it should be pretty good. I am going to make Swiss cheese tomorrow. I haven’t made cheese in so long, I’ve been working 2 jobs instead. I’m so excited!

Go Tammy go! Good to hear you’re back. It’s awfully quiet here on the forum… I’m in production also at this moment, Gouda with mustard seed. And the first time with the new cultures I found, so I’m anxious to see how it turns out…

Heat is not that big a problem; because of a new invention called air conditiong.  But I’ll agree with Tammy - it’s hard to be making cheese when the work schedule is so all consuming.  Fortunately, retirement is less than a year away!!!

Summer, heat, what are you guys talking about? We are at the moment already glad when we have a day without rain! Summer still has to start this year.
Beginning of June we had again a night with some frost. And no, we are not living upon a mountain, we are 5 meters below see level…
But, for next Thursday they are expecting the first day for this summer with temperatures above 25C/77F, that’s what we call a “summer day” here.

I live in Georgia. June is in the 90’s F and July is in the high 90’s and August is like living in Hell. Is that a bad word? We call August Dog Days, it’s over 100 every day, and the humidity is pretty high. Before air conditioning people wouldn’t have any type of surgery in August, or if you cut yourself it would get infected.

Gouda with mustard seed I never heard of. Let me know how it comes out.

Another note, I have a motorcycle and I don’t ride in August. It’s like being baked on the pavement. There is nothing you can do to get away from the heat. The highway is hot, the side roads are hot and you really don’t want to sit at a red light

And the last weather forcast for our first summer day: At the end of the day a thunderstorm…. Can easily be the end again of a period with a bit better weather. I think I’ll make a cheese next Saterday…
