Hello to all,

For our international friends I need to mention that today is Thanksgiving Day here in the U.S.  It stems from our early days of European settlement, when the settlers took time to hold a feast of Thanksgiving to God for His providence and provision.  It is our custom to also have a “feast”, but most of us have forgotten the true reason for the holiday.  So, in keeping with the tradition, I want to give thanks for the privilege of knowing all of you through this medium; and thanks also for the knowledge I have gleaned from our mutual association.  May the coming year(s) draw us even closer.

Happy thanksgiving too!
Here it is only a habit in some protestant churches, but not on November 22 in particular.
And somewhere during spring they pray for good weather and a good harvest…

Thanksgiving is when your in-laws show up at your house to eat. We have had major arguments, but never a fist fight. This year, the biggest trouble maker decided not to attend so we had a very nice day.

Thanksgiving is always on the 4th Thursday, not the same day of the month every year. I don’t know how they came up with that theory, and why did they choose Thursday?

Thursday was selected because someone in the distant past, with incredible foresight, envisioned that it would eventually become a 4 day weekend.  If I was in the habit of wearing a hat, it would be off to him/her.

It’s a shame we don’t paid for Friday. The office closes, so you can’t work, but you have to take a vacation day or a day without pay. I do enjoy the 4 day weekend though. Especially if the relatives leave on Friday.
