I’ve been using the Hanna Checker pH meter, and it’s served well.  But it hasn’t lasted very long.  I’ve gone through two of them, and neither one lasted a year.  The first one just quit working.  A new battery wouldn’t help - just no readout.  The second one would not calibrate.  I could turn the calibration screws but no changes were registered.  Can some of you tell me if you’ve had better results with other meters?  I don’t want to spend an outrageous sum, but a bit more durability would be really nice.

I have a Hanna also, someone gave it to me because someone gave it to them and they didn’t need it. It is still working so I have not searched for another one yet.

I recommend looking at the posts from a while ago when he had a big discussion about them. Remember, the “shaft/probe” only has a 1 year shelf life and has to be replaced.

Yeah Neil, I remember that.  But this meter has a reading, but will not adjust/calibrate.  Turning the screws does not change the readout at all.  So I don’t think it’s the probe.  Maybe I’m wrong.

Just looked back (july2008), Ive had mine for 3.5 years. Did a PH7-4 test and they do not jive, maybe dry too long so I probably have to get a new probe. However If I stick to bloomed cheeses then PH is not critical.
