Call us Crazy! “Sam I Am” Joins the Family

Tonight we brought Sam home. Sam is a 13-week old Maine Coon Cat. Here are a couple of photos. I’ll post more as comments as we take them.

He is adapting to the household and the dogs pretty well. He has Sailor scared to death—won’t walk past him. For the most part, the dogs are curious, but could care less. Ebay seems to be a bit upset. Two Shoes hasn’t a clue…

Sam’s breeders are going to be showing him in regional cat shows. Cat showing is a whole new world—one we are probably not going to get into. But, if Sam likes showing, they will take him on the occasional weekend and try to get his kitty championship (not the right vocabulary for cats, I know).

He will accompany us to New Mexico for a week in mid-April and have his first show in Colorado Springs the last weekend in April.

Stay tuned!

Scottsbluff Dog Show

This weekend we attended a 2 day dog show in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. We attend this show every year and it has, generally, been good to us.

March is a bit “iffy” for this show, usually we encounter snow and sleet and cold winds. The weather forecast for this weekend, however, was for great, warm weather. It was cold and windy and rainy…

The big news is that Alex, our 17 month-old puppy won 2 points toward his championship! Of course, we took him to build points for Sailor, who needs 4 points for his championship…

Here is the promised photo (posted on 24 April, 2004)

A New Member of our Family

This weekend, we welcomed a new addition to our family. Her name is Hailey, and she is an 8 week old Bernese Mountain Dog.

She comes from a litter of four puppies, sired by our Sailor.

3D Images

I figured out how to create anaglyphs (3D images that must be viewed through special glasses) using Photoshop. This technique is used for still and moving pictures. The recent Spy Kids movie uses this technique, for example. So, if you have a pair of the glasses that have a red tint for the left eye and a blue tint for the right eye, check out these photos of Lynne standing in front of some aspen trees at our cabin. One is in black and white, which is relatively easy to create. The other is in color, which is a bit more difficult.

(Note, the images are fairly large, about 170Kb each, so if you are on a dial-up connection you’ll have to wait a while. If you want to go ahead and view these, just click on “more”.)

Customer Service, NOT!

I just had the most bizarre experience. Lynne and I are planning to make a provisioning trip to the cabin tomorrow, taking up large and bulky items we need like paper towels, dog biscuits, etc. And, we needed to leave this morning, early, to take Daisy to a vet for X-rays in Castle Rock. So, I took off about 8:30 this morning to do the shopping.

At about 9:30 I stopped at Sam’s Club to get the bulk paper towels and dog biscuits. I flashed my membership card as I entered the store, as I always do, and was refused entry! “You cannot shop until 10:00.” The store was clearly open and people were shopping. I just stood there with my mouth hanging open, “what do you mean I can’t shop until 10:00?”
