Going home is not as much fun

Blogging tonight from Bryan, Ohio. Where is Bryan, Ohio? you might ask. Not too far over the border from Indiana, that’s where. We just barely have our toe in Ohio.

Last night we were in Council Bluffs, Iowa (just barely a toe in Iowa across the Missouri River and Omaha, Nebraska). We are right on track, and even slightly ahead of our time last year. I wrote it all down when we reached borders, lunch, dog pee stops, etc.

We are listening to “The Help” on audio and the miles are flying by. I have read the book and seen the movie but it’s all new to Rick. The readers are wonderful and even one of the characters (Minnie) is the actual person that played her in the move reading her part in the book.

We are getting tired of hamburgers although I have to say that Hardee’s and Culver’s have really really good ones. Tonight we are having pizza delivered to our hotel room door. It’s not here yet and it’s 7:37 p.m.

The dogs have been walked and we are settled in until just before bed when the dogs will need to be walked again. eBay has settled herself on the mound of bed pillows and looks quite happy to not be in the crate in the car. Sam is walking around exploring the room.

Thank goodness tomorrow night we will be home in our own house! It’s more exciting embarking on a journey than making that same journey back home again.

It will be good to get home but it’s always sad leaving the cabin. I know that loads of laundry await upon my arrival home (three bags full stuffed up in the pod) and all the other things that belong to my daily ritual which have not been the same now for two weeks.

I am too road weary to read this over before I post it, so it is what it is tonight. One more road day! Hurrah! At least we are not losing an hour a day now due to time zones. That’s a good thing!

Over. Finished. Done

The day is OVER and so is our time at the cabin. The aspens are mostly FINISHED.  The wind over the past few days has basically DONE them in. And so another year at the cabin has passed for us. Not too many changes that we could note from last year.

No more significant number of trees invaded by beetles than last year. No more trees toppled over than normal. Not as many political interventions like last year.

We are ready to go “home,” yet not ready. We talked about staying one more day but we both decided that if asked and time allowed we would stay another week. Another day? It wouldn’t make sense. Maybe another three to four days if we could. But one day?

So we have made as many preparations today as we possibly can. The dog crates are loaded as are all the stuff that goes under the seats before the crates get loaded. The dirty laundry is stuffed into bags awaiting their time tomorrow to be loaded into the pod.

Leaving is sad. But we all had a good day including the long walk to Egger’s Pond this morning with the dogs. I will leave you with a few shots from that.

We’ll catch you on the flip side of our journey home! I will try and blog from the road, but not sure if I will or not.

Our day started with Sam and Ebay finding a mouse hiding in our utility closet. Sam was not about to let the mouse go. Cats can be so cruel. He only wanted to taunt it and play with it. Rick finally cornered them in the bathroom and took the mouse away from Sam after a half hour’s torture.

Alex decided he needed more attention and did a little rug work.

Silly dog!

Bella has her last swim.

And we have our last look at western vistas.

See you all back in New Jersey!
