LOVE that photo! What a great building! Those colors are terrific, the reds and greens and that tattered blue tarp. You could do a whole series on that one building alone.

Steve, thank you! It is interesting, isn’t it? And very creepy. You can’t really get close to it in the summer because the weeds and thorn bushes take it over. It was very overcast yesterday and hard to get good photos, so I think it would be better on a day with more sun. But I did capture one of the windows ...

Yeah!!!! You needed to get your fantastic pics out there. I love that photo; there is a long story behind that building, I am sure.

This doesn’t look like a building I’ve seen from the road. Is it back in the property? Very cool! Let me add the Ironworks to my list of things to see next time I visit (along with Skylands).  Thanks!!

Thanks Bigsis—you’re sweet for saying that. Most of the buildings have been moved from other places, and no this house is not visible from the road. There used to be a village back here once upon a time.
Sounds like we’ll be doing a lot of rural walking on your next visit!

In some ways, shooting on overcast days is better. You don’t get interesting shadows, but you also don’t get distracting or distorting shadows—know what I mean? The flat light can actually be preferable because it’s so even.

Steve, yes I know exactly what you mean. In fact, in fall, it’s almost better when it’s overcast. But ... I was having trouble getting the exposures I wanted even when I bumped up the ISO the shutter speeds were just too slow. I was getting frustrated that things were not coming out the way I had envisioned!

I’m not sure what it is about old falling down buildings, but I love them. Although, I have to admit that this one makes me a little sad. It was obviously a home…I can’t help but wonder what happened.  Great shot.

Susan, I know. They always looks so unloved and forlorn. I am pretty sure they might have moved this house from another location but it could be original too since there used to be a village here a long time ago when the ironworks were still in production. I’m not sure.
