This morning around 7:00 a.m. we had a our first bear visit of the year. It was just a small cub, probably one of last year’s. He/she stopped for a few minutes to check out the bird food station, then walked up our driveway, pausing to check out one of our light posts.
I think it’s the same bear we’ve been seeing in the woods lately, and probably the same bear that wintered in our neighbor’s tool storage container. It seems a little young to be on its own, but maybe something happened to its mother. Perhaps it’s one of the fantastic five of Myrtle’s?
It was nice to see!
What a nice neighbor you have, letting a bear sublet a place for the winter! Glad to see they’re up and about.

Kind of sad to think of a younster on its own. I hope he learned all he needed to know. Did your neighbor ‘know’ that he had a tenent in the tool storage?

Christina, yes they are nice especially since they have chickens!
Jan, yes they knew he was in there. Several times they opened the doors to get tools and would see him asleep on the shelving! He wasn’t doing any harm so they just let him be. He seems to be thriving so far!

Lynne - We sould rarely see bears in Boulder until August when the berries came out! Anyway, there are some supposedly cool iris gardens here in Monclair open in May for about a month. Do you want to come down and go to them sometime?
