Gone to the birds

Our house in Colorado is being taken over by birds. First, there is this ghostly impression on the sliding glass door where a bird obviously flew into it. Can you see it, the wings spread wide? It’s like it imprinted the house with its spirit. It looks like a hawk to me, or maybe it was a grackle. There was a twin print to this one on another door right next to this one, but it was more faint. Same bird, or one just like it. Very strange ...

This sweet dove has built a wispy nest under the eave of the sunroom in back. She picked a smart place for her nest, out of the wind and rain. We didn’t disturb her; let her have her babies.

We also discovered that a woodpecker—a flicker probably—had made several nice holes in our stucco board on the outside of our house. One was the size of a grapefruit and a starling had started to nest inside it. The hole went all the way through the stucco board, the foam, and finally the wood. They tell us it happens all the time and the repairs are simple. Still, it’s just one more thing.

Now if only the birds could pool all their money together and buy the house, it would be a perfect fit.

I’m sure it won’t surprise you to learn that this bird connection to your house is very interesting to me. The bird ghosts on the windows are intense. And the dove - nice! What a good job she did on her nest. Usually dove nests are so messy, unlike the robin nest on the back porch that looks like it was constructed by professionals.

What are these birds trying to tell you? Have you thought about it? Maybe they know something you don’t know about what you need to do so the house will sell. Remember that phrase, “a little bird told me ...” ?? If I were you, I would try to put it all together into some kind of message.

It’s worthy of consideration, at least I think so!

I know Reya, it’s very strange. I’ve thought a lot about it, but can’t come up with any kind of message.

Robins are the master builders of nests for certain! The last dove nest we had I swear consisted of only four strands of straw, yet they raised three babies in it!

Now we have a nest full of baby phoebes/flycatchers. The same parents used the nest last year and raised two crops of kids in it! Birds are amazing!

I think the birds just know it’s Lynne….need I say more?
