I found it in the yard, completely intact. I thought it was a cicada but wasn’t completely certain until I looked it up. Isn’t it beautiful with its camouflaged body and gorgeous wings?
Poor Pookie. She must be as traumatized as you are, in her own feline way.
Cicadas? CUTE!! The 17 year cicadas were really cute, with red eyes. Awwww!!!

they are truly odd. especially when they crawl out of the ground after years. up a tree, then they metamorphose (i like to think that they sing john secada songs whilst inside the chrysallis).

They are pretty cool creatures, aren’t they. We used to pluck the old shells off the trees in the summer and feed them to the ducks. Of course, after we scared each other with them.
