Not exactly “turkey in the straw” but if we don’t get more rain it might just be more like straw than grass.

She’s baaaaack! Momma turkey has decided she likes it here. Yesterday afternoon she brought the kids to the park—also known as my back yard. They were too cute to pass up snapping a few shots of them. They roamed all over the grass, pecking at worms and bugs that our afternoon rain shower had coaxed out of the ground.

They seemed to enjoy their little outing and so did I. The dogs weren’t too happy about the whole thing because it was right at the time of day that I feed them and let them out in the yard. Their dinnertime got delayed by 45 minutes or so until the coast was clear and I was certain that baby turkeys weren’t going to be part of the dinner menu.

Baby birds and their mommas are the cutest things!  We have a nest of hungry baby birds outside of the front door at work. The tree is only about 20’ high, so they are pretty easy to spot when they stick their heads up to cry for lunch! It is way to distracting to have them outside the window!

What a nice family she has! Were you able to get as close as it seems?

Jan, do you know what kind of birds they are? Baby birds are so much fun to watch.

Jane, she’s very proud of them. I did have my zoom lens on, but I was only on the back deck almost right above them, so yes, pretty darn close!

Hey, I just posted a turkey too! Only mine were rescued from being someones dinner.  Your’s are much, much cuter!

Awesome turkey pictures!  We have quite a few of them around here, but I’ve never been able to get shots of them, and I’ve never seen them in my backyard.

Last year, coming home from work early one morning, I had to slow down because there was an entire flock, maybe 18-24 turkeys all milling around in the road and on the roadside near the canal!  I didn’t have my camera with me!
