Smoke from a distant fire

Okay, people have been asking if we are safe or if we were impacted by the High Park fire in Fort Collins. I can honestly say up until about 15 minutes ago we were not.

However, now, gag, cough, the smoke moved in while we were sitting outside. We came inside, closed all the windows and turned on the ceiling fan which we never use. We can still smell the smoke.

Outside our windows the air is smutty with wood smoke. If we did not have access to TV or internet I would be leaving now, thinking that fire was imminent. The sky is gray and murky. It even smells like smoke in the cabin right now.

I am assuming the sunset is going to be awesome, but at what cost?
We are far away from the actual fire, and this is the first time we’ve felt a real bite in the reality.

Hopefully, this change in the wind pattern will help the firefighters fight this out of control blaze. Maybe, just maybe, it will burn back on itself.

Yikes! I haven’t heard anything about this fire but I hope the wind shifts!

That is very scary! And there’s nothing worse than being forced to smell smoke of any kind. I was just reading about this fire and wondering if it impacted you guys. Hope you get to enjoy your last few days there before going home.

Steve, it’s a pretty big fire. They have 5 of the big air tankers (there are only 9 in the whole country) brought in to fight it. No smoke this morning!

Bigsis, yeah, not much fun. It was so bad last night that we were thinking if it was still bad this morning we might have packed up and headed home. So far so good today!

Its been a rough week.  Well actually not a week…its day 4. Today hasnt been as scary as days 1 - 3 here in the city.  Yesterday I was going to start packing important papers and photos. Luckily they did some amazing work yesterday and stopped it from coming into Fort Collins. We could see the homes burn above Horsetooth Res. from here.  Unreal….  Knowing what its doing just up the road is so sad…hard to go about our normal everyday life.  Just thought I would share….Take care guys!

Debra, you must live on the west side of Ft. Collins then? Especially is you can see homes burning! How awful. It’s hard to imagine for sure. As long as we lived on the front range we never saw a fire like that. Thanks for sharing and keep safe! We hope that this fire is over with soon. As I type clouds are building up here, so maybe some much needed rain??

How frightening I hope it burns itself out before it does too much damage.  Stay safe.
