At night. Water temp: 85. Outside temp: 90 or so.
Ear to the water doing the side stroke I hear:
My breathing. In. Out. In. Out.
The water slapping against my body.
I feel:
The silken feel of the water.
My body slicing through the water. Whether or not it’s fast and furious or slow and languorously. I did both tonight. Twenty laps of semi-fast and furious to another four or five that were slow and languorous. (Love that word, don’t you?)
I see:
A jet passing over, lights flashing. Bats fly over, sans lights.
I am sated. It’s been a good day. Cleansing in a way most of you cannot fathom.
I have no clue what I ever did without a pool. We weren’t looking for one. But it found us.
I always said I would never own a pool because of all the required maintenance—but this is pretty convincing!

There was a pool in the apartment complex I lived in Aurora and I always swam at night! Number one to stay out of the sun, and secondly because I almost always had the pool to myself! Great to lie on your back and look up and the moon and stars.

An amazing way to cool down and unwind. Enjoy.

Gotta love the pool, even tho I’m a poor swimmer. Floating around on a pool “lounge chair” is the best way to get a tan in the heat!
Your entry was so poetic!! Loved it. I was almost there….

Steve, I always thought so too. But in actuality the pool takes very little maintenance other than chlorine daily, the robot once per week and a daily skim. It’s totally worth it.
C, I didn’t know that you swam!
Joyce, it truly is!
Bigsis, I didn’t realize I was being poetic. Just writing how I felt about swimming at night. I think I got quite a bit of sun while you were here! Glad that you got the whole pool zen thing!
