Upside down

My bedroom curtains billow out in long, white tails in the soft breeze coming in the windows. The air is warm, but not overly so; and not humid. I go outside in my new-on-my-birthday fleecy flip flops with no jacket or sweater. The grass is green. The sun is shining and its rays are warm. I glance over at our pool and think about taking a swim.

But…WAIT!

There is something not quite right about this picture I am painting. The pool is still closed up for winter and the trees are bare of leaves. Even though at 67 degrees it feels like Spring, it isn’t. It’s only January. My neighbor told me her spring bulbs are coming up and her forsythia bush has a bloom on it.

My mother-in-law called yesterday morning to, as she put it, rub salt in an already sore wound. It was snowing at her house. Big, fat, fluffly flakes. It had covered the ground and the bushes. However, they live in Las Cruces, New Mexico! They hardly ever get any snow. Has the whole world turned upside down?

My new flag looks kind of silly now.

Comments:

Back in the days when I was practicing witchcraft, I wouldn’t have thought twice about trying to invoke winter at a time like this. Thank goodness I’ve mended my ways. Now I understand that bigger patterns than my need for winter are guiding the weather.

In other words, I surrender!

Take a swim, for tomorrow it could be cold ... or not! It is really weird, though.

So by our best estimate, we have had 46” of snow since December 20th here at the house, and ANOTHER storm is expected to arrive this Thursday.  The only way to get around in the yard is by snowshoe; the dogs really appreciate my trails!  You are very welcome to haul away as much of this stuff as you want.
The grass is always greener on the other side, pun fully intended!

Okay, is that SURRENDER Reya, or SURRENDER Dorothy? smile

Reya, I can’t swim because the pool is incommunicado until the water system is turned back on. Shame, that.

Linda, Linda, Linda. I would trade you for your snow. You know that. And our grass is still VERY GREEN. Love ya!

I’ve been enjoying the warmth too.  Outside working on some fleece, watching the cat sleep under the bushes, listening to the birds and smelling the wonderful breeze.  All on Jan. 5.

Why does it give me a feeling of unease?  Why am I hoping for the dreaded cold, that I dislike so much?  I hope Mother can straighten things out…gently.

Hey!  Thanks for your comment on my blog.  I’m glad you like it!
