Morning Walkabout

Posted by: Lynne

These are some photos from our walkabout this morning. Finallly, a beautiful clear blue sky to greet us! It's been kind of stormy weather since we arrived, can it really be two weeks ago? It sure doesn't seem like two weeks. And to think that normally we'd be heading back east right about now if this was vacation. I'm so glad to be staying this time.

And can it really be one week already since little munchkin Destin came to live with us?

Above is the view from one direction on top of the hill with Bull Mountain in the background. I love the walk up the sage-covered hill, it's good aerobic exercise. Plus, in the spring there are lots of tiny wildflowers, like tundra flowers. Can't wait for them to emerge. Here is the view from the other direction with the Snowy Range in the background. The cabin is back in the trees to the right.

Right now it's pasque flower time since the snow has recently left. Purple as far as the eye can see.

The huge snow drift that is still covering the road to the bottom is shrinking fast. Bella will be sorry when it's gone.

Destin continues to amaze and delight us. He has been doing pretty good on potty training, but still having a few issues at night which we are working on. He is still a baby after all. He is smart and a quick learner. He loves the outdoors—sometimes too much and I end up carrying in a kicking and screaming puppy. But he has got to learn that we set the rules, not him, no matter how darned cute he is.

I love to watch him move. The morning sun was not in a good position for photos this morning, but still you get the idea. Hey, ma look at that reach!

We have declared Sundays "no work" days to give ourselves a break. Yesterday we unpacked more kitchen and book boxes. So far everythingn is fitting in nicely and pretty much how we had planned. We'll probably go down to check the mail and make sure the new mailbox is still standing, plus we are expecting a few things. Rick met the the mailman (but he isn't my NJ Dennis) the other day and that is working well. Plus, we got a phone call from the UPS driver wanting to know how we wanted to handle packages. Turns out we need a combination code to use the UPS drop box at the Wooden Shoe, so we'll get one of those assigned to us. At least we have that all figured out, or we'd like to think so.

We will also probably take the Ranger out for a whirl around Sand Creek.

I hope you're having a wonderful holiday weekend!
