The House Needs New Shingles?!
Over the weekend a man stopped by the house and declared, “You have those defective shingles on your roof.” Then continued to tell me about defective Owens Corning shingles that the company was replacing at no cost and that he could help me make the claim for new shingles and do all the work at no cost to me.
Sounded to me like a scam.

Whole Foods Opens Store in Fort Collins
Whole Foods has opened a store in Fort Collins in the old Montgomery Ward building. It seems to have taken them a long time to remodel and prepare the site, but it is worth the wait. I’ve lobbied Whole Foods for a Fort Collins store for a couple of years…and, I was apparently not the only one!
We visited the store for the first time Wednesday morning, and I am so very happy! The selection of fresh fish, meats, organic produce, cheeses, etc. is just fantastic. The people are helpful and knowledgeable. The store is beautiful and fun to shop. The aromas are mouth watering.
Of course, consistent with their reputation, they are not a cheap place to shop, so we won’t do our everyday shopping there. But, when I need fresh fish, custom cuts of meat, special cheeses, or gourmet items not available elsewhere, I’ll be roaming their aisles!
Welcome to Fort Collins, Whole Foods!

A Terrific Web Site for One-of-a-Kind, Hand-made Stuffed Animals
A year ago, or so, Lynne discovered several auctions on eBay featuring hand-made “teddy bears” from a woman in Germany. She makes bears, but also other critters like dogs and cats. Most of her creations are one-of-a-kind or are made in very limited quantities. They are extraordinarily well made and of the highest quality.
We have adopted two of her creations: Happy the Bernese Mountain Dog puppy and Feivel the bear that wants to be a mouse.
These make great unique and special gifts. But, I’m featuring her web site here to encourage you to explore her site and the creativity she brings to her photography and web site design. She makes these critters come to life!
The web site is in German, but very self-explanatory. There is an “eBay” link that will take you to her German eBay auctions. To find her stuff on the American eBay site, just search for seller: “baerenliebe-teddys”. (Be sure you do a search for seller, not just a general search or you won’t get any results.)

Gyromitra Gigas?
This weekend I found 6 large, rather ugly mushrooms growing in the bog around the beaver pond at the cabin. They were of the type Gyromitra. And, I suspect from their size and multichambered stem, that they were Gyromitra Gigas although, I suppose they could be Gyromitra Esculenta. It probably doesn’t matter since neither is edible!
Since these mushrooms are in a class often called “false morels”, I’m wondering if their presence is any kind of indicator that I may still find morel mushrooms?

Moose Everywhere!
Last Friday evening we took a short drive around Sand Creek Park to see if we could spot any wild animals. We occasionally see some deer or elk, and once in a while, moose.
We saw 4 different moose on that short drive. All were within about a mile of the cabin. Click “more” for photos.
