Leaping Ground Squirrel

Shooting video of nature, especially animals, can be very challenging. One key is the predictability of the subject. In this case, we have a ground squirrel that leaps from a small aspen tree into the bird feeder next to the cabin that is fairly predictable.

So, I set up the Phantom Miro M320S camera on a tripod pointed at the jump path. I set it up to use a triggering scheme that triggers the camera automatically based on motion in the live image. Here is a photo of the setup:

And, here is a short montage of the resulting video. Enjoy!

More Hummingbirds - And, No Surprises This Time

More hummingbirds. No surprises this time. These are closer than the previous video. Soon, I am going to try to get some footage of two or more hummingbirds “sparring” at the feeder, so stay tuned.

More of Silly Bella

Yes, we sleep in the same house as this dog!

Here is some slow motion footage of her shaking off after a swim in the pond. And, jumping over a log on the way home.

Waterfalls

During our recent visit to the Snowy Range, I used the Miro camera to get some slow-motion footage of waterfalls. I wish I were creative enough to edit this to nice music wink

Here are some “behind the scenes” shots that Lynne took:

Critters

We’ve seen a few critters around the cabin this trip.

First was a deer that we saw a couple of time. He is a youngster with velvet on his antlers. Kind of skinny too:

The next day, a moose walked into our clearing—well, almost all the way. We ended up grabbing our cameras and stalking it through the woods. So, these pictures aren’t great:

We call this guy Junior because he appears to be a young moose. Although he has a wattle and a nice start on some antlers.

But, the next day we were driving around and saw this old guy by a pond. We call him Gimp because he limps badly. The story is that last year, someone took a pot shot at him and hit him in the right front shoulder. He didn’t die, but still gets around, although obviously in some pain.
