For 8 cups of apple pulp, use about 12 Granny Smith apples; or, just buy minimally adulterated apple sauce in jars 2 heaping tsp. cinnamon Dash of salt 1 tsp. ground cloves 1/2 tsp. allspice 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg 1 tsp. lemon zest 1/2 cup red hots If you used fresh apples, then 5 cups of sugar; if you used apple sauce, add sugar to taste, you may not need any at all |

Instructions:

1. Combine all ingredients. Pour into a large roasting pan and cook, uncovered, in a 300°F oven for 4 hours or more, stirring every hour. The moisture will cook out and it will thicken, cook to desired consistency. It will thicken more when it cools. |
