This is more a method than a recipe. We've modified ingredient amounts some and you can add whatever other ingredients you want.
Serving Suggestions:
Ingredients:
1 pound lean ground beef (original recipe called for 2 pounds)
Some Italian sausage of your choice (optional, but recommended)
Sliced pepperoni (optional)
1 medium yellow onion, chopped
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 tbs. minced garlic
1 (1.5 ounce) package of powdered spaghetti sauce mix, or use a mixture of Italian spices
1-1/2 cups sour cream
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (original was 3/4 cup)
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (original was 3/4 cup)
Store-bought or home made pizza dough, or 1 can crescent rolls
2-3 tbs. melted butter
2-3 tbs. grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x13 inch casserole dish.

2. In a 12-inch cast-iron skillet, begin cooking the raw meats over medium heat. When it begins to brown, add the chopped onion and continue cooking until the meat has completely browned. Spoon our any excess grease.

3. Reduce the heat to medium-low and stir in the pepperoni (if using), tomato sauce, garlic, and spaghetti sauce mix. Let this simmer for 5 minutes or so to combine the flavors and reduce some. Stir occasionally.

4. Scrape the mixture into the casserole dish. Spoon the sour cream over the top and spread out evenly. Sprinkle on the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses.

5. Place the pizza dough or crescent rolls on top of the casserole. Brush with some melted butter and sprinkle with the grated Parmesan.

6. Bake for about 25 minutes or until the crust is cooked and golden brown. Serve hot.
