Candy Cane Christmas Cookies (Butter Cookies)

The original recipe called for using food dye in one batch. Then, two batches of dough, one colored and one not, would be twisted together to create cookies shaped like a candy cane.
Serving Suggestions:
Use this as a base recipe. Use a cookie press to make various shapes. Top with sprinkles, dried fruit, chocolate chips, etc.
Ingredients:
1 cup soft shortening (half butter)
1 cup sifted confectionery sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift Together:

2-1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. salt

Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 375°F.

2. Cream butter, shortening and sugar together. Add egg and vanilla; blend. Stir in sifted flour and salt.

3. Use cookie press to make assorted Christmas shapes.

4. Bake for 10-12 minutes until just brown.
